Are you inspired at your workspace?

We spend at least 8 hours a day at our workstation and often we overlook it as a potential place of nurture to both our work and daily lives. A cluttered workspace tend to kill the ambiance of creativity and productivity. We may or may not realise that our surroundings shapes the way we think and feel.

A workspace that has aesthetic appeal, with the correct combination of colors and textures of the interior space can nourish your creativity and inspire you. Messy space can leave you feeling exhausted and unfocused. Do you notice how your varying experiences as you step into different offices. Some office has that cold and unfriendly feelings while others seems warm and inviting.

Close your eyes and picture this. It is morning, and you are walking into your office to start your work day. You step onto a beautiful glaze wooden floor which leads you to your natural , functional wooden desk. You sit in a very comfortable high chair that supports your back, and gaze out the window overlooking a beautiful refreshing landscape. The morning fresh breeze airs up the whole office from the open window. The sound of the soft chirping fills the room with mesmerising tune. A large green plant is in the corner and a vase of fresh flowers is on your desk. The warm and soft light creates a comfortable and relaxing atmosphere. The center focus of your room is a big and beautiful oil painting which you bought for your personal collection and as a reflection of your personality.

Would this type of space uplift your spirit and inspire you to do your best work? Very few people take the time to create for themselves an office that is truly nourishing because too caught up in their work. The challenge is to seek a way to occupy your office space in a way that harmonizes with your personality, energy, and purpose as to induce quality outcome in our work.

Look closely at your workspace. What is the message that your office area currently communicates to you and others? What do you see that stimulates your creativity and inspires you to do your best work? What needs to be improve to create the inspiring work environment.

Could it be by moving your desk so that the view is more inspiring? Or by adding fresh flowers, a plant, or music? What about adding a water fountain, a wind chime, a poster, or a beautiful piece of art to your workspace? Or, choosing to write with pens in a rainbow of colors?

Are your office and desk areas visually stimulating with lots of pictures, photographs, quotes, and memorabilia? Or, you may prefer a clean, uncluttered state for working.

Only you know the type of surroundings you will thrive in. Determine what you need in your environment to inspire your best work. Decide how to change your space so you feel more inspired and creative - and watch your productivity and satisfaction levels soar!

Who is driving the bus?

Do you find yourself losing steam half way in the effort towards realising your personal or business goals? If you are facing this problem, STOP and take the time to reassess the reason why. Our unconscious mind may be telling us something important such as the possible internal conflict in regards to the goal we are striving for. When we are striving to attain the  goal, we are pushing ourselves out of our comfort zone. We cannot stand still and hope that we will succeed. We may need to learn  new sets of skills,  perhaps acquire new knowledge, form new beliefs, values or cultivate the right attitude.

There is a popular phrase which I learned from the NLP founder Richard Bandler  "Who is driving the bus?" Picture your  life as a “bus.” Who’s driving? Is it you or someone else? Where is the bus going? Who chose the route, the destination, the speed? Who are the passengers? What about side trips along the way? (You know that side trips often enrich the journey!)

Personally, this metaphor question is about who is in charge of your life? Fear and  false beliefs often grip us from moving forward in our life. This could be due to our conditioning during our upbringing, cultural influence or social expectation.

Is your belief preventing you from the lifestyle you desire?
